Started in the early 90's in N. VA w/kit
(the 6-gal plastic bucket and prehopped
extract). Made a yeasty, drinkable, ale.
Moved to a 7 gallon canning pot and a
cajun cooker and stayed w/extract kits
before going to all-grain. Kept at it,
but never more than 5 or 6/year. Setup was
makeshift and labor intensive. Really
hated bottling. Got a bigger house, but
set brewing aside for a while, though I
tried to stay with it. I bought a kegging
setup, but just lost interest. I'd never
really fallen in love with my results.
Back in Austin in '03. After a few Dogfish
Head 120's in '07, got bit by the brew bug
again. To AHBS for 15 gal SS pot and IPA
mini-mash kit. Scored a burner and a pile
of carboys & kegs on CL. Went
all-grain, 10 gal batches on most brews, 4
taps, & push legal limit. Provide
adult beverages for all family gatherings
each year. For Christmas, treated myself
to March, Love, and 20-gal Boilermaker.
First recirculating mash 2 weeks ago.
